Handmade for Cats

本日は、猫と暮らす工房付きの家の進捗を見に行ってきました。

現場では、断熱材の上から石膏ボードが貼られ、
いよいよ壁らしい形が見えてきました。
建物の中の雰囲気も少しずつ家らしくなってきています。

天井を見ると、さらに木材が組まれていて、
天板と組んだ木の間に断熱材が入る構造になるそうです。

2階部分では、このように天板との間に断熱材を挟み込む形になっていました。
壁に入る断熱材よりも、天井に入る断熱材の方が厚いそうで、
熱が逃げやすい上部をしっかり守る設計になっているとのことでした。

こちらは工房の壁。

少しわかりにくいですが、
キャットウォークが取り付けられていました！

窓のところにも通路がついているので、
ここからうちの猫たちが外を眺めて、
楽しく“ニャルソック”してくれるのではないかと思います。

壁一面にキャットウォークが設置されたので、
猫たちも自由に行き来できそうです。

今の作業場には、猫が上がれる場所がほとんどないので、
入り口でニャーニャー鳴くだけで
あまり中には入ってきませんでした。

でもこれなら、
猫たちと一緒に仕事ができる工房になるかもしれません。

…とはいえ、猫のことなので、
本当に使ってくれるかどうかは
まだ未知数ですが。

Progress on our house with a cat-friendly workshop

Today I visited the construction site of our new home with a workshop designed for living with cats.

The walls are starting to take shape as drywall has been installed over the insulation. The ceiling structure is also being prepared, with thicker insulation planned between the beams for better thermal protection.

One exciting detail is the installation of cat walkways along the workshop wall, including a path near the window so our cats can enjoy their favorite activity—watching outside (what we call “nyaruso-ku,” a playful Japanese term for neighborhood patrol by cats).

Our current workspace doesn’t have places for the cats to climb, so they usually stay near the entrance. But with these new walkways, we might finally be able to work together with them nearby.

Of course… being cats, whether they’ll actually use it is still a mystery.
