Handmade for Cats

本日は、

猫と暮らす工房付きの家の進捗を見に行ってきました。

一見すると、前回とあまり変わっていないようにも感じましたが、

実際には電気配線や水道管の敷設など、

家の「中身」を整える大切な工程が進んでいました。

壁の中には、電気の配線がびっしり。

普段は完成後に見ることのない部分ですが、

こうして定期的に現場を見学すると、

家がどんな構造で成り立っているのかがよく分かります。

時間がかかるのも納得です。

そして、今回いちばん嬉しかったのが、

2階インナーテラスの天井が貼られていたこと。

天井材は杉の羽目板。

赤みのある部分は木の芯に近いところで

自然な色合いと年輪がはっきりと表れていて、

塗装はまだですが、

とても美しい仕上がりでした。

これまで住んできた家では、

天井に天然木が使われていることはありませんでした。

だからこそ、ふと見上げたときに、

この木目が視界に入ると思うと、それだけで気分がやわらぎます。

家の中に「自然の表情」があるというのは、

思っていた以上に心地いいものですね。

野生み強めな、うちの猫たちも、

きっとこの空間を気に入ってくれるはず。

Today, I visited the construction site of our workshop house designed for living with cats.

At first glance, it didn’t seem very different from the last visit,
but most of the work focused on installing electrical wiring and plumbing—
the essential elements hidden inside the walls.

Seeing the complex wiring inside the house really reminded me
how much careful work goes into parts we usually never see once a home is completed.

The highlight of today’s visit was the ceiling of the second-floor inner terrace.
Cedar paneling has been installed, showing beautiful natural grain patterns.
The reddish areas, closer to the heartwood, add warmth and character.

I’ve never lived in a house with natural wood ceilings before,
so imagining looking up and seeing this texture every day feels incredibly comforting.

I have a feeling our very “wild at heart” cats will love this space too.

More progress is already underway.
